Tragedies relating to bullying and violence that
are reported in the media generally elicit an
immediate sense of alarm and stir us into
action and yet, despite our commitment and
best intentions, we so often take a quick fix
piecemeal approach that can create the
illusion that the problem is being addressed!
This is not unlike sticking a small band
aid on an oozing wound.
Bullying occurs where young people gather. It
can occur on the way to or from school,
playgrounds, school washrooms, eating areas,
change rooms and in classrooms. It happens at
camp, sports groups, and recreation centers
and at home. It can happen on the cell phone
or in internet chat rooms.
Bullying happens - it hurts - and the hurts can last a lifetime.
